Joseph Murphy
We lost my Dad to cancer on June 11, 1995. He was diagnosed in April of the same year so it was a quick unexpected loss. He was an exceptional person and loved by everyone who met him! A loving husband, father and grandfather to my two children. They still talk about him all the time even though they were very young when he passed. We have lots of pictures of silly Pa to remember him by! And on clear nights we look for his star, the own shining brightest in the sky. Below is an excerpt from his obituary: Mr. Murphy was born in Newton, MA on Sept. 22, 1940, son of the late Joseph Vincent, Sr. and Marie (McCarthy) Murphy. He was educated in Weymouth and was a graduate of Weymouth High School with the class of 1960 as well as a graduate of ITT Technical School where he received his certification in electronics. He spent two years on active duty with the US Navy aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Gainard. Following his military service Mr. Murphy was employed by General Dynamics for over 21 years as a chipper and later by Travi Construction and Pulte Homes at Great Island in Plymouth. He held a special love for sailing and enjoyed his time on the ocean. He loved working at his home and spending quality time with his grandchildren. He was the first patient in the world to have a Pull-Thru proceedure for the treatment of Hirschsprung's Disease in June of 1946. The surgery was performed by Dr. Orvar Swenson. Since then thousands of children have lived and been saved because of this surgery.
