
Edward Gaffney
Edward J. Gaffney Sr., 62, of 76 Pleasant St., died Sunday at home after a battle with cancer.
He was the loving husband of Rita (Barnard) Gaffney.
Born in Cambridge, Mass., on March 14, 1942, he was the son of the late Edward and Mary (Harris) Gaffney.
He was employed at Electric Boat and Bethlehem Steel's Quincy Shipbuilding Division for a total of 42 years, retiring from Electric Boat's Program Finance Organization in 2004.
He was a past member of the Old Saybrook Fire Department and also enjoyed playing in the EBAC softball league during his younger years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mariann Kubic, of Cadiz, Ohio, and Robin Roberts, of Weirton, W.Va.; a stepdaughter. Kimberlee Jones, of Groton; three sons, Edward Gaffney Jr., of Pawcatuck, David Gaffney, of Gray, La., and William Gaffney, of Cadiz, Ohio; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Stonington Cemetery, N. Main Street, Stonington. There are no calling hours.
