James Balcom

James "Jim" P. Balcom passed away on May 7, 2016, at Vitas Hospice in Naples, Fla. Born in Manhattan, Kan., he grew up in Weymouth, Mass., and graduated from Weymouth High School. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of New Hampshire and a master's degree from the University of Guam. He spent 4 years active duty in the Navy and 8 years in the Reserves obtaining the rank of Lieutenant. He enjoyed a long career in sales and marketing with 3M Company. In retirement he was an avid golfer and belonged to the Forest Glen Country Club. He was also an accomplished long distance bicycle rider. His longest of many bike trips was from California to Virginia. Jim is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary; and his brothers, Philip and his wife Joanna, Robert and his wife Margaret; and his brother-in-law, Toby Lyon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Margaret Balcom, and his sister, Margaret "Peggy" Lyon. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations in Jim's name to the Alzheimer's Support Network, at 660 Tamiami Trail North, Suite 21, Naples, FL, would be gratefully appreciated.
