Leslie A. (Gould) Lawrence of Duxbury passed away unexpectedly on July 17, 2021 at the age of 78. She was the loving mother of Amanda Roache and her husband David of Melrose and Jonathan Lawrence and his wife Jessica Steel of Belmont; cherished grandmother of William, Alden, Adelle, Evelyn, and Emmett; dear sister of Jay Gould of South Carolina and the late Elizabeth Tileston.

Leslie was born in Pensacola, Florida and, as a military family, lived in a number of states growing up before her parents settled in Weymouth, MA. She graduated from Weymouth High School in 1960 and went on to Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio. She graduated with a degree in mathematics in 1964. She taught math in Hingham Junior High School and Weymouth High School for the next 15 years. She also coached swimming, both as a student and as a teacher.

Leslie settled in Duxbury in 1974 and was an active community member for over 45 years. She was a member of St. John’s Altar Guild, the Duxbury Rural and Historical Society, and the Duxbury Garden Club. She was an avid gardener, tennis player, and loved cooking. She played bridge regularly, and took up photography later in life. After retiring from teaching to raise her two children, she became a licensed Realtor and worked in Duxbury and surrounding towns. She was a loving mother and especially loved visits from her grandchildren over the past year. She will be missed for her loving nature, empathy, and humor.

Visiting Hours will be held on Friday, July 23, 2021 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield and will conclude with a procession to the Mayflower Cemetery in Duxbury, where Leslie will be laid to rest with a Graveside Service.
